Laurie Smith

Laurie has been an NCUPS member for only 4 years, and yet is recognised as one of the clubs leaders, taking on the role of club treasurer this year.

Laurie is a financial controller in the Bay Area. She is also a well-known P.A.D.I. Scuba Instructor and Underwater Photographer. Laurie has grown as an underwater photographer very quickly, progressing from Novice to Open proficiency in less than two years. Under the wings of her photographer husband Monte Smith, Laurie has become a force to be reckoned with. Using a Nikonos V camera, her work has taken first place in several underwater photographic competitions. When Laurie is not shooting underwater, she models for her husband.

Laurie has traveled to far away places to find her subjects. These include Borneo, Indonesia, New Guinea, Malaysia, Belize, and the Sea of Cortez. She also dives in Monterey, California regularly.

Laurie was the NCUPS featured photographer for January, 2001.
