Jo has been an NCUPS member for 13 years, and served as club secretary in 2000. Jo has always had an interest in animal life. She grew up and was schooled in Ohio where she received her BS and MS degrees in Biological Science from the Ohio State University. She worked in Ohio and New Jersey in secondary science publishing for over ten years. Shortly after Jo moved to California in 1985 she became interested in scuba diving to better observe underwater life. Her interest in capturing images underwater came just a few years after she began scuba diving. Jo has authored articles published in Diver Magazine, Discover Diving, and Outdoor California using her husband Ken Hares' underwater images. (See below, past featured photographers) Her published photograph, a Garibaldi, is in "California, the Golden State", a brochure given yearly to tens of thousands of Californians touring the California state capitol. Jo won two first places and one second in the local Siemens ICN photographic competition with her underwater work. She also won a third place in the CA Fish and Game annual photographic competition. Additionally she has received place awards in Light and Shadow Camera Club competitions and NCUPSā minicomps. Click on the thumbnails below to see a larger version of Jo's images. |
