As a toy-maker and textile artist, Patti always found inspiration in the ocean. Although she began diving in Cozumel in 1986, always with the intent of doing underwater photography, it wasn't until 1990 that her plunge into total obsession began. She snapped her first picture with a borrowed Sea and Sea Motormarine. The pictures were green and out of focus, but she was hooked. A few years later, after purchasing a used Nikonos V and SB103 strobe she found NCUPS. Since then, adding equipment bit by bit, she has immersed herself into the deep with trips to Cozumel, Palau, PNG, Belize, Baja, Hawaii, Indonesia, and an occasional day trip to Monterey Bay. Patti has had winning images in NCUPS and LAUPS competitions and was the first woman to take Best of Show in the California Beach Dive Photo Competition. The prize for this win in 1999 was a fabulous two-week trip to PNG. Most recently, she won a trip to the Solomon Islands on the Bilikiki in the Ford Seahorse's competition as the Grand Champion of Saltwater. Like so many true artists, Patti sees all of her work as needing improvement and she never stops working at this magnificent obsession. Patti served two years as secretary and two years as educational director! Click on the thumbnails below to see a larger version of Patti's images. |
