How to Join the NCUPS Yahoogroup for chatting with club members
by Charlie Eng NCUPS maintains Yahoogroups for club use:
ncups@yahoogroups.com - for general club members to chat about diving, uwphoto, uwvideo, and trips.
ncupsboardnews@yahoogroups.com - for NCUPS board members to discuss the business of the club. If you can get to a Internet Service Provider (ISP) and have an email account/program, you can register for the NCUPS Yahoogroups. If you do not have or use internet browser acccess but can get email, just send a message to Ruth Chofre and she will get your email address added to the NCUPS Yahoogroup once you are verified as a NCUPS club member for the current year.
The monthly newsletter reminder on where to download the newsletter file also works off of a restricted yahoogroup also. Your membership renewal process will have updated this option on whether or not to receive the monthly newsletter electronicly or via hardcopy. For those who can browse the web: Go to the registration web page http://groups.yahoo.com/ and register yourself to Yahoo and then JOIN the NCUPS Yahoogroup. While you will be able to read our messages you will NOT be able to POST (leave) messages for the group until a day or two after signing up. The NCUPS moderator will get an automatically-generated email that you have joined. The moderator will verify you're a NCUPS member (annual dues paid for this year) and update your profile to allow the posting of messages. This is how we'll try to keep the spammers out, by knowing who the posters are. How to send an email to the entire NCUPS Yahoogroup: Just use the following TO: address: NCUPS@yahoogroups.com . Please don't address a message to one person and launch it to the group! If you really mean to email an individual in the group, please do so privately. Ideas on how to use the NCUPS@yahoogroups.com: Announce your dive trips; sell dive gear/camera gear; ask a question on where to dive; ask how to take a UW picture; notify the group when you plan to dive and need a buddy; find a date for the NCUPS Holiday Party; create a car pool for the Holiday party or monthly Monterey club dive; film questions; what lens to use; lost dive gear at the Breakwater; volunteer to do the refreshments, find out who's doing digital and ask how. The ideas for use are endless! Tips on Using NCUPS Yahoogroups:
- Keep the email with attachments smaller than 500k or else it will bounce back to you undelivered.Keep private messages private by not using the NCUPS@Yahoogroups.com email address.You can get the NCUPS Yahoogroup emails one by one as they are generated, or in one-day digest, or not at all if you want to just browse the messages via the website.Remember to practice safe email usage - don't open .EXE files from someone you don't know and please don't pass those types of files around using this Yahoogroup.If you break these rules, the Yahoogroups Moderator will BAN you from reading or posting to this group. Misconduct issues will be forwarded to the NCUPS Board members for handling.
- Questions/suggestions/complaints about our NCUPS@Yahoogroups.com email list should be forwarded to the Yahoogroups Moderator (unless you really want the group to see your message - please keep it private!).
