Paula Butler presents Wakatobi Resort
Join guest relationship manager Paula Butler for a look at Wakatobi Dive Resort in
Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Paula will take us on a photo tour of the resort,
sharing highlights of premier dive sites.
Located on a small island in southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, Wakatobi Resort is
positioned in the heart of the coral triangle, home to the world’s highest level of marine biodiversity. The resort offers casually elegant accommodations in a
collection of Bungalows and Villas situated on a white-sand beach overlooking the
expansive House Reef. This site has been named as one of the world’s best shore
dives, and provides divers and snorkelers with easy and unlimited access to
a diverse range of underwater environments and marine life.
Paula Butler was working on a career in finance when she discovered diving. It was just a couple of years after getting certified that she attended her first NCUPS meeting. After that, she became completely addicted to underwater photography. Her love of the sea and photography were the major factors in her decision to leave a corporate job as a bank VP to become part of the dive industry, and work on getting more time underwater.
A resident of Northern California, her first-ever trip to the southern hemisphere was
in 2005 to Wakatobi Resort, with a group of divers from the Northern CA
Underwater Photography Society (NCUPS). That experience was indescribably
beautiful. She has spent time since diving and taking photographs around other
locations in Indonesia, including Bali, Komodo, Alor, Raja Ampat, Ambon and
various parts of the Banda Sea, but Wakatobi remains her favorite. She has found
the reefs surrounding Wakatobi to be the most pristine in the world today, free from
the bleaching that has been seen in many other locations.
Paula has worked with Wakatobi Resort for ten years. In addition to diving,
she maintains a strong interest in conservation, sustainability and the protection of
coral reefs around the world. These are values that fit in well with Wakatobi
Resort’s industry-leading social and conservation programs.
